Journal # 20

Sometimes other culture people misunderstand Korean aspects. However, if they know about our culture, they can understand Korean aspects. I'll give you some example about misunderstood situation. First, when teacher teach a student a lesson in Korea, a student usually drop his or her head and look at the floor. This mean is "I am very sorry for my fault, and I regret of this". However, It is very impolite behavior in the US. A teacher think that a student don't concentrate on him or her. Student should look at a teacher when a teacher teach them a lesson in the US. However, if a student directly looks at a teacher, it looks very aggressive to the teacher in Korea. Second, Korean usually don't talk when we have a meal. We talk after finish a meal. However, Western think that a meal without talking is rude. Third, Korean respects elder people. We shoud concede our seat to elder people when we see them in public places. few weeks ago, I went to a DMV, there are so many people in the DMV. An old woman stood up infront of youths, but nobody concede their seats to her. If they do this in Korea, It is very rude. Culture is very different each country. I think we should know it's not bad, just different.

Journal # 19

I like a lot of things in my leisure time. However my favorite leisure activity is watching a American drama. Until now I watched a lot of US dramas which were "Prison break", "Gray's anatomy", "Heroes" etc. I was fed up with Korean dramas 5 years ago. A story of Korean drama was too boring to me. At that time I came to know "LOST" which is my first exprience of US drama. It was really awesome. It seemed like a movie. The story was strong and makes me tensive. Moreover it was really helpful to improve my English. After I met US dramas, I can't stop watching US dramas.

Journal # 18

I had a plan to go to San Diego during spring break. However, I couldn't go there because my friend moved her home. I went to Santa Monia and Getty museum instead of San diego. Those were really good. But I think If weather was good, I might more enjoy there. When I went to Getty museum, I wore just light cardigan and there was a concert at the outside of the museum. So I couldn't enyoy a concert because of coldness. Spring break was little bit short and I couldn't do one of my plan, but I spent such a good time.

Journal # 16

For keeping up my language practice during the spring break, we have to close to English. First of all, the most important thing is "Speaking in English". It is difficult to me. I live with Korean family in here. It has a lot of merits but also a defect. One defect is that we are talking each other in Korean. Of course they are really good at English. However, talking with Korean in English is little bit awkward because I can speak English well. Therefore, my first strategy is overcoming it. I'll try to talk with them in English and listen to their talk.

Journal # 14

It is true Korean culture makes me different from other country people. Each culture pursues different things which include a society environment, an education in school or home, and traditional values etc. So we are different because we have lived in different cultures. Average personalities of Korean are polite, little bit impatient, enthusiastic, collective, conservative, etc. Of course, you can’t see those things. I have no idea how I display my cultural identity. However, as time goes by, when you and I know eacy other, you can feel those tings. And sometimes I bring some traditional things and introduce them.
I proud of my country, so I'll try to learn more about my country.
